Vinci wins third phase of Cairo Metro Line 3 contract worth USD1 billion
France-based Vinci has been selected to undertake the main contract for the third phase of the Cairo Metro’s Line 3, in an USD1 billion deal. Vinci’s technical offer has scored higher than Spain’s Obrascon Huarte Lain’s (OHL’s), the only other bidder, despite offering a higher price for the scheme. The contract is expected to be signed within the coming few weeks. The total length of phase three of the third metro line will be 17.7 km and will include 15 stations. A consortium, led by Orascom Construction and including France’s Alstom, the UK’s Colas Rail and the local Arab Contractors, had earlier won the electromechanical and systems contract for the third phase. The signalling and telecoms system and infrastructure is being provided by Alstom. (MEED)
