Loan growth remains weak in February; deposit growth improves
UAE central bank’s data shows that loan growth continues to be pedestrian at 5.4% Y-o-Y in February (+0.5% M-o-M). Banks have guided for mid-single digit loan growth in 2017. Deposit growth however gained traction, rising to 6.7% Y-o-Y (1.2% M-o-M) in February from 5.2% Y-o-Y in January. Central bank’s press release suggests that government deposits rose M-o-M, which will make it the fourth consecutive month of growth in deposits.
