Line 6 of Cairo Metro may be awarded before the end of 2016
The feasibility study for Line 6 of the Cairo Metro is under way and will likely exceed its agreed-upon six-month timeframe, according to Sameh Refaat, vice-chairman at Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT). The feasibility study was carried out by China’s CRRC Corporation on 31 December 2015 for the study. Line 6 is likely to be procured using a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, with an expected cost ranging between USD2.5 billion and USD3.5 billion. Funding will likely to be provided either by Export-Import Bank of China or China Development Bank, according to Refaat. The final agreement for the construction of Line 6 could still be signed before the end of 2016, despite the delay at the delivery of the feasibility study. (MEED)
