Egypt resolves airlines earnings repatriation issue, to use official exchange rate for repatriation
Egypt’s Central Bank has resolved issues with several international carriers, after airlines recently complained of problems repatriating earnings due to an FX shortage in Egypt, according to a statement by Egypt’s Tourism Minister, Hisham Zazou with some airlines also confirming the news. British Airways, Lufthansa, Saudi Airlines and KLM have brought up this issue over the past few weeks; British Airways has said last week that it would not accept payment in EGP, given its troubles with repatriation. Zazou stated that issues were resolved through separate negotiations with each airline and promised that the transfers will be made by the CBE using the official exchange rate, but will be paid over installments. The agreement saw the government approve repatriation of 50% of British Airways (BA) earnings in Egypt, 25% for Air France, and 25% for Saudi Airline.( Reuters, AL Borsa)
