Shura council proposes closure of small grocery retail shops in favor of larger locations to support Saudisation
The Shura council has made a proposal to the ministries of Labour and Municipal and Rural Affairs to shut down small grocery retail stores while limiting the issuance of licences to only larger establishments , as a means of bolstering Saudisation. According to Mohamed Khenezi the Shura member who made the proposal, there is no benefit from having more than one small grocery retail store in the same street or district, furthermore they are often unable to employ women due to their small size, against efforts for increased female participation in the workplace and rely on foreign labour. The Ministry of Labour will review the matter to determine if it should be further developed or implemented if deemed necessary, Khenezi was quoted by Okaz newspaper. (Argaam, Okaz)
