Saudi government considers removal of local partner condition for FDI
The Saudi government is considering waving the requirement for foreign companies to have a “local partner” to directly invest in the kingdom, as it has hindered Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), according to Ashraq Al-Aswat newspaper. The Saudi Arabia General Investment Authority (SAGIA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Ministry of Labor are jointly studying current obstacles for investment in Saudi, specifically, some of the set requirements and procedures, to bolster investment activity. The committee is expected to report its recommendations regarding FDI conditions within three months. Morevoer, SAGIA had recently received requests from foreign companies to invest in Saudi.
