Progress made at government’s one-million-housing-unit project
The Ministry of Housing is set to tender 33,300 units, with average unit size of 90 sqm, spread over six new cities, as part of the government’s one-million-housing-unit project. This is in addition to 30,000 units, on the behalf of a number of governorates. The 33,300 batch comes as part of the FY2015/16 plan to build 48,000 units, with an estimated cost of EGP4 billion, as part of phase III of the government’s ongoing social housing programme. The total number of units completed under the one-million-housing-unit project should reach 250,000 units by end of June, for a total cost of EGP33 billion, and to be fully completed by end of 2020, with total cost exceeding EGP150 billion.
