OPWP may award three more water projects by end of 2016
Oman Power and Water Procurement Co (OPWP) is likely to award three more independent water projects (IWPs) by the end of 2016, saus Yaqoob bin Saif al Kiyumi, chief operating officer of OPWP. Three water desalination projects, Salalah IWP, Sharqiyah IWP and Duqm IWP, are at different stages of their tendering process. Kiyumi added that water demand is growing by six per cent annually in the sultanate and is expected to rise further. Kiyumi added a power project with roughly 800MW capacity is also in the development stage for tendering. “This is a project for 2021. We should be starting pre-qualification before the end of this year. The location for the project has not been finalised but we are trying to get it in Muscat.” (Muscat daily)
