His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Saturday approved the engineering design of a new skyscraper tower combining traditional Islamic and modern architecture that will be built in the Dubai Creek area, to be built by Emaar. Sheikh Mohammad, accompanied by Mohammad Ali Al Alabbar, Charmin of Emaar, and Fadel Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding, visited an exhibition in which six global consultancy-engineering companies are competing for the new tower’s design. Sheikh Mohammad approved a design by the renowned Spanish-Swiss designer Santiago Calatrava Valls. Sheikh Mohamad described the tower as a unique architectural masterpiece on a par with the Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower. (Gulf News)
