NBE and Banque Misr raise rates on USD certificates of deposit
State-owned National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has raised the interest rates on its three-, five- and seven-year USD-denominated certificates of deposit, a banker told Reuters on Wednesday. Besides, Banque Misr has raised interest rates on its three and five-year USD-dominated certificates of deposits, according to its chairman Mohamed El-Etreby. The interest rate was raised to 4.25% from 3.25% on the three-year certificate, to 5.75% from 4.25% on the seven-year certificate and to 5.25% for the five-year certificates. Earlier this month, state-owned banks issued USD-denominated certificates for Egyptians living abroad with maturities of one, three and five years, with a minimum value for the certificate of USD100.
