Government eases requirements for import registration
The Trade and Industry Ministry will drop international quality and environmental standards as a requirement for its new import registry, says the ministry’s First Deputy Saeed Abdullah. The ministry will also allow imports from qualified retailers in addition to manufacturers. Abdullah denied that the decision means the Ministry will back down from implementing the import restrictions announced last month. The decision was ratified on Tuesday and will come into effect two months after being officially announced. The move comes after various complains about the new measures from importers.
