flydubai plane crashes in Russia, all passengers tragically killed
A flydubai jet headed from Dubai to southern Russia crashed on Saturday killing all 55 (mostly Russian) passengers onboard and seven crew members. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft crashed on its second landing attempt at Rostov-on-Don airport, Russian officials said. The plane's flight recorders have been recovered undamaged, but no official reason for the crash has been made by authorities yet. So far speculation is that the crash was caused by rough weather conditions as the aircraft was in a holding pattern in midair for nearly two hours post its scheduled landing time and made several landing attempts. Sergei Melnichenko, head of Aviation Safety consultancy in Moscow, said so far little pointed to an act of terrorism. Under international aviation rules, the investigation will be led by Russia's air crash safety investigation agency with representatives from the United States, where the jet was made and the United Arab Emirates where the airline is based.
