Fire breaks out at SABIC's subsidiary during scheduled maintenance; 12 die, 11 injured
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) [2010.SE] announced that a fire had broken out during the scheduled maintenance taking place at its subsidiary, Jubail United Petrochemical Company, for the MEG plant. The fire resulted in the unfortunate death of 12 people, along with 11 injuries, six of which are in critical condition. The announcement made by the company also clarifies that the incident did not cause any disruptions in the company's operations, while it is also assessing the financial impact of the incident, which is not expected to be material, given the full insurance coverage enjoyed by the company.
