Egypt to develop 60 mobile power generation units for EGP1.3 billion and invest EGP53 billion in 2016 on power projects
The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is planning to develop 60 mobile power generation units in 2016 with EGP1.3 billion investments, according to the Minster of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohammed Shaker. The power units will have a total production capacity of 300 MW (5 MW/ unit) and will be distributed among most Upper Egypt governorates, as well as touristic, remote and off-grid areas. On another note, the Ministry’s total investments in 2016 are expected to total cEGP53 billion, of which cEGP21 billion in projects under development by the government, USD2.7 billion for the fast track Project, cEUR1 billion in advanced payments for the Siemens three power plant project, the Minster added. The government’s projects will add 3,850 MW in 2016, including: 1,150MW from renovated plants that were mostly out of service, 1,400 MW new capacity and 1,000 MW from the fast track Project. Power consumption during summer 2016 is expected to utilise c30,000 MW our of total estimated capacity of c36,000 MW, assuming c7% growth in consumption Y-o-Y. (Al Mal)
