Dubai International records 6.9% rise in February passenger traffic
Passenger traffic at Dubai International airport (DXB) reached over 6.38 million passengers in February 2016, up 6.9% Y-o-Y, bringing the total year-to-date passenger traffic at DXB to c13.7 mn, an increase of 6.5% versus the first two months of 2015. Aircraft movements at the airport also increased 6.3% Y-o-Y to 32,975 with India remaining the top destination followed by Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. The rise in traffic at DXB coincided with the opening of Concourse D in February, which increased DXB’s annual capacity to 90 mn from 75 mn, said Dubai Airports chief executive officer Paul Griffiths. The airport was ranked the third busiest airport in the world by the ACI in February moving up three places from last year’s ranking. On another note, the emirate is undertaking a massive expansion programme for both its airports as it plans to attract 86 million passengers per year in 2016, 126 million by 2020 and around 200 million passengers annually by 2030.
